John 16:33 (NASB 2020) 33 These things I have spoken to you so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.”
Problem free people don’t need to hear this verse. Many times their peace is found in their circumstances. They have peace as long as there is money in the bank, everyone is healthy, and they are able do as they please. It is when they can’t do as they please because there is no money, no health and their future is severely limited do to their jobs, their marriages or some other stress that they don't have peace. To often people think that peace comes when circumstances are good.
Jesus came to us to give us peace. This is not the peace that the world gives to us. The world gives us the peace of circumstances. Jesus gives us peace beyond our circumstances. Jesus gives us peace with a promise that there will be tribulation. We will go through tough times.
Maybe you aren’t in one of those stressful situations. You have a relative peace because your circumstances are good. Things will not stay that way forever. The world is fallen from its original state. It will give us hardship. Now is the time to embrace the peace of Jesus before the hardship hits us.
Maybe you are in one of those stressful situations. You can have peace in this: Jesus told you to take courage because He has overcome the world. He is stronger than anything that can come against you. It may hurt now but it will not last.
Recently, I got a shot in my shoulder. It was placed in the area between the bones on top. It hurt when the shot went in. It really hurt when the injection was administered. I knew that while I hurt at that time, it would soon be over because the doctor was not going to leave the needle in my shoulder and he could not keep injecting cortisone beyond what he had in the syringe. I had peace, even though I didn’t like the pain because I trusted the doctor.
If you are going through a bad time, this time will not last forever. Take courage because Jesus has overcome your bad time.
