Come to Jesus If You Are Weary

 January 20, 2024

Saturday

Matthew 11:28 (NASB 2020) 28 “Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.

Less than 20% of the church does about 95% of the work of the church. That is a reality that reveals how important the work of the Lord is to us. Those who are working are also getting the benefit of walking with the Lord. Those that refuse may think that working for the Lord just takes up their time and wears them out.

Sure working for the Lord will wear you out when you do the work in your own strength. The key is coming to Jesus first. That isn't just for salvation but for the strength and joy to do the work. People in love often work long hours and don't even notice how hard they have worked. The same work is drudgery to those who only see the work without having the love necessary to do the work.

The problem with many church members is that they have lost their love for the Lord. They still go to church but they won't sing the songs they don't like. It is bothersome to them. They expect the church to provide services. They expect to be known by the pastor. They expect special recognition for everything they do. And they are worn out.

The church has that smaller 20% who act with joy. They come and serve. They are the greeters, the ones who step in to clean after fellowships, the cooks, the teachers, the ones who rock the preschoolers and the ones who work in the food pantry (among other things).  They seem to have boundless energy. They are reluctant to give up these responsibilities when they get to an age when they can't do them anymore. Their rewards will be great in heaven.

The key is coming to the Lord. Come to restore that first love over and over. Realize when you are weary in your soul that your love may have waned. Fall in love with Jesus again. And again. And again. And again.
