Wisdom for April Fools Day

April 1, 2024

Monday

Today is April Fools Day. No one knows its origin. We all like to participate. It's just a fun thing to do. It's okay to have fun as long as you really aren't foolish. In other words, have fun but don't do anything foolish. Use wisdom even on April Fools Day.

Pray for wisdom in this day and God will give it to you. All of us need wisdom. Too often, we have confused wisdom with knowledge. There are plenty of people who are able to explain some of the most complex mysteries of the universe that have no wisdom. Wisdom in knowing what to do. The main book I know where it can be found is in the Bible.

Yet, even knowing the Bible will not make you wise. The scribes in Jesus day knew the scriptures. They knew the law. However, they didn't recognize Jesus. It was those who were much more simple who overwhelmed the ranks of the believers. The educated scribes were too smart to see Jesus for who He was. Their knowledge got in the way.

Still, that is the way we fail to be wise. We allow our knowledge to get in the way. We read of the theories of how the earth began and stop believing that God created the earth. We declare ourselves wise and become fools.

Can we say that we are becoming more moral because of our knowledge? Can we say that we have a more joyous world that before? Can we say we are safer?  No, we can't because knowledge, though important, is not as important as wisdom.

So, pray for wisdom today. We can always use more.

James 1:5 (NASB 2020) 5 But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
