Is God Looking for You?

Many, many years ago there was a fictional television program which told the stories of people who were given a million dollars. An incredibly rich benefactor would choose someone worthy enough to receive this magnificent gift. It wasn't a contest. This money was given to people the benefactor considered worthy because of the lives they had lived. The stories centered around the character of those who received the gifts and their very credible lack of belief that someone would do such a thing.

I think people watched this program because they wanted to believe that there might be someone who would do such a thing. They wanted to believe that someday someone would walk up to them and give them the gift which would make all their financial troubles disappear.

What would you think if I told you that I know someone who is looking to give his support to you? What if I told you that he has been looking for someone with a pure heart so that he could support them? What if I told you that he always finds the person he is looking for? What if I told you that this benefactor is God?

Many people believe that God makes rules and searches the world for those who disobey His rules. They see Him and those who serve Him as the spiritual and moral police. They think that they are being reported for their failures instead of the good things that they have done. They keep ducking their heads, avoiding places where they know God can be found and hoping their names don't come up in God's presence. They are afraid that God will hear of their failures and give them everything they are due.

This is not who God is. God sent His Son to die for us, not to condemn us. God demonstrated His love toward us in that He sent His Son for people who had no thought of Him. He sent His Son for those of us who working against what He wants to do. He even sent His Son for those who hate Him. His love is unconditional. He wants to see us succeed.

God searches the world for those who give themselves to Him. He wants to give His aid. He has plans for great things to happen in each of our lives. He works with those who will turn to Him completely. These are the people who God can give His strength to. These are the people who will walk in His strength.

Think about it. Who is mentioned on the news each night? Isn't it those who have done bad things? God doesn't have to search for bad people. He wouldn't need omniscience to find bad people. He could simply watch the news!

God is searching for the good. He is looking into the hearts of each person seeking those whose heart is His. These are the people He gives His strength to.

So, is God looking for you? I hope so.

2 Chronicles 16:9 (ESV)
For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to give strong support to those whose heart is blameless toward Him.
