Be Ready for the Lord's Return (And the Day of the Lord)

 July 5, 2024

Friday

It seems that only those who want to draw attention to themselves talk about the Day of the Lord. You may consider that day to be coming for 2,000 years or from the beginning of time. It is always coming whether we know about it or not.

So let's get our facts straight. There will be a day when Jesus returns. There will be a day when we will meet Him in the air if we have not already passed from this life. God is patiently waiting for people to take salvation's walk with Him. There will be an end to God's patience.

Salvation is assured for those who know the Lord. Should it make a difference if we are walking with Him now? The New Testament gives a resounding "Yes!"

Peter said it would make a difference.

2 Peter 3:9–11 (NASB 2020) 9 The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not willing for any to perish, but for all to come to repentance. 10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be discovered. 11Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what sort of people ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness,

Paul said there should be a difference.

1 Corinthians 9:26–27 (NASB 2020) 26 Therefore I run in such a way as not to run aimlessly; I box in such a way, as to avoid hitting air; 27 but I strictly discipline my body and make it my slave, so that, after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified.

Jesus said there should be a difference.

Matthew 24:40–42 (NASB 2020) 40 At that time there will be two men in the field; one will be taken and one will be left. 41 Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken and one will be left. 42 “Therefore be on the alert, for you do not know which day your Lord is coming.

Now, do you think that the only way you know you will be ready for the Lord's return is to always be ready for the Lord's return?
